Kalo Mina! Happy March!

In many parts of the world, March signals the start of spring. Marti bracelets are an ancient tradition that celebrate the arrival of spring. On March 1st, children don a bracelet made of twisted white and red thread, with the white symbolizing purity and the red symbolizing passion and life. Different areas of Greece have various traditions, but the bracelet is worn until it either falls off naturally or until a sign of spring, such as a swallow, is seen. The bracelet is then removed and hung on a tree to bring it health and fruit in the new season. Today, we put on our Marti bracelet hoping for warmer days ahead — which hopefully include warm days in Greece this summer!

Wherever you are, will you be participating in the Marti bracelet tradition?
